I see that many of my modules resemble each other, and could be modified versions of a parent module– as well as find myself visiting 5 different files to include one additional database field and variable input.

There’s bazilion web frameworks out there and there will always be one, that would fix your current problem right away. Unfortunately, it’s not one you’re using.

Hey Victory,

I have been fortunate enough to find your blog via a tip off and am enjoying it on my reader! I've been waiting to hear someone, anyone, make a case for using php frameworks. Often I imagine what it would be like, and have hints of imaginations, but never could really grasp it.

I'm month 7 into developing a beast of a program and its these days that I see that many of my modules resemble each other, and could be modified versions of a parent module-- as well as find myself visiting 5 different files to include one additional database field and variable input. It's these days that wonder if this is what a framework could help me with.

truth be told, i started to use emacs, but split tested with vim, and chose the latter because the keybindings suited me better. *shrugs*

Thanks Leeward!

I am shocked that my blog made someone choose vim, i am an avid, avid emacs user, if you want to use it in the terminal you can do `emacs -nw` I am speechless.

I do use vim for quick edits, i use it pretty much daily but, still as a main work horse emacs is the way.

Then again you choose Django over Pylons so maybe you like having that "out of the box" feeling, that's cool too.

For some reason i have a way i think things should work and i want the freedom to make them work that way if i so choose.

Thanks again for reading :D

Cool story, bro :) I love the blog, been reading since your fourth post (on automation tools). We've got similar style; I'm using ubuntu/python/django most of the time, and that post inspired me to switch to Vim (from Aptana) for the pleasure of using a terminal based editor.

I'm starting a new project with my friend right now, and I'm on the fence as to whether I should use a PHP framework for this -- We've got domainA.com on a pre-built social platform already functioning as we like, and we're launching domainB.com as a sister site with a single, unified login. It looks like most of the work will just be integrating the API, so I think I'm gonna opt to do this frankenstein style, but still, your post gave me a lot of good pros/cons to weight out about the matter :)

Cheers, keep the good content coming!
